Top signs of bed bug bites

How do you know if you got bit by a bedbug? We get this question a lot. Usually, it’s accompanied by a picture of the bites. Unfortunately, it’s near impossible to tell a bedbug bite just by looking at the bite itself. But there are some signs that you can look at to help narrow down what the source of those welts might be.

If you recently travelled like I just did, and I stayed in a sketchy hotel in a place that I was sure had bedbugs, it definitely had tonnes of roaches.  That’s a pretty good indicator.

Count if you get one bite or if you have a rash all over your body. So, too few or too many can rule out bedbugs.

Also, the arrangement of bedbugs is pretty efficient and they’re going to typically feed in linear patterns. Not necessarily a straight line, but what would correspond with riding up on the blanket to somebody’s side or along an arm or something where the bedbugs could line up and feed?  The other thing you want to do is just rule out other things. Did you recently change laundry detergent? Did you switch up your medication? Were you out somewhere where you could have been bitten by a bunch of mosquitoes or maybe playing with some neighbour’s dogs, where you get some flea bites, anything like that? The other thing you want to look at is neighbours. Are you in an apartment or duplex where somebody could have brought some in? Maybe? Did you get some bats that flew in or some swallows that are joining you that could bring in some bugs along with them?

Speaking of bringing things in, those things you bring in off the street, maybe it’s from a garage sale. Maybe you picked up that free mattress or couch off the street. Sometimes it could just be a library book. So anything that you bring into the house that has any crack or crevice, even inside of electronics, that can be where bedbugs make their way in, can be a difficult question to answer.

These top signs will definitely help you out.  But if you need extra help, reach out to us and we’ll help give you peace of mind.
